Most people grow up dreading having to go to the dentist. Not me. Going to the dentist was awesome. Why, you ask? Well, for starters, I pretty much always knew I was going to have a cavity- so that never came as a horrible surprise that I had to come back for nova-cane, a filling, and the numbness. I didn't mind all that. Second, the dentist had an awesome basket full of toys so at the end I got to pick out a toy, sometimes 2- it was great. Next, my mom always took me to wendy's after the dentist so I could get a frosty for my numb mouth. And the final reason why I probably liked my dentist so much was that he was my best friends dad!! It was awesome, we would always talk about her, about the sports teams we were on- it was cool.
After getting married, there was a space of about 2 1/2 years where I didn't see a dentist. For me, and my cavity prone teeth, I knew that was bad. After college, dental insurance finally came with Brett's job. I was so excited to go. But, it wasn't the same. I mean, I really like my dentist now- she's a really nice, funny lady- but we don't get to talk about Jamie, I don't know the same smells and floor plan, and the worst part? No toy basket.
I recently went and found out I had 8 cavities. ya, I know. I promise I brush and floss! I floss every night people! My teeth are weak sauce!
So, I was in this last week to get all the cavities done that were on my right side. She started, she did most things right, shook my cheek while she gave me the first few shots of nova-cane, talked to me lots, made me comfy, the hygienist even rubbed my forehead while the dentist gave me shots of nova-cane, it felt pretty good. Until..... she started drilling.
I felt everything! So I told her, she gave me a few more shots of nova-cane, all in the back of the mouth which is the worst part to get it, she says. Then I sat there for 10 min waiting for the nova-cane to kick in. So, she came back and drilled again. But I still felt it!
I think I had her stumped.
So, after like 10 shots of nova-cane- I was good to go.
In between cavities she went over to start on a new patient. I tried to lift my head, but the right side of my neck muscles were not working! I couldn't lift it! I thought that was odd, then the hygienist asked me a question- when I tried to respond I couldn't talk! I sounded handicapped!
She just laughed and walked away, in the mean time I knew it must have been from all the nova-cane but then my mind started thinking, "What if I had a stroke?" "I have slurred speech!" And I started wondering if I should get up and call Brett and tell him to come get me quick or call 911!!!
Luckily, I didn't. Looking back, that would have been extremely embarrassing if I called 911 and they got there and the dentist was all, "It's just from the nova-cane, duh!" And I would then have to faint or something to make the paramedics trip worth it, right? Glad I avoided that whole situation.
Anyways, long story I know and really no point. I have to go back again in a week for 4 more cavities on my other side- I wonder if I will have stroke-like symptoms again!?!

And P.S. you have such a good attitude...I hate the dentist for the exact same reason you love it...I ALWAYS HAVE CAVITIES....so although it has now been three years since I have been to the dentist I have decided to fake like I really enjoy it :) Love you Em!
