I did it!

Brett is out of town today with the car, so I was left to get to and from school today with the SCOOTER!

I know, I know, we have had the scooter for over a month and I'm still pretty much a wimp when it comes to riding it on my own. I just get really nervous and scared that;
1) it's going to crush me
2) a car is not going to see me and hit me
3) I will accidentally hit the gas instead of the break and crash into the back of a car at a stoplight or something

That third one is the one that actually plays in my head the most. It would just be so embarrassing to say, "Oh, sorry.. I meant to hit the brake.. did I do any damage?"

.. scared and nervous as ever, this morning I had no choice- I had to get to class.
I went out, kicked the kick stand up and rolled the scooter out of it's parking spot to face the right way. Whenever I try and 'move', 'push', or 'roll' the scooter somewhere it's quite a comical scene i'm sure... it's so stinkin heavy and it rolls sooooo slow because i'm so weak.
And while moving it i'm using all my strength trying to be sure it won't tip over, so i'm sweating moving this thing and it's barely budging... sad- I hope the neighbors don't watch me.

After successfully rolling the scooter out I was feeling pretty good. I hopped on, started her up and off I went. I remembered to wear sunglasses today, because for some reason whenever I ride the scooter my eyes immediately start watering uncontrollably and I can't see a darn thing.
This doesn't happen at all to Brett however.

Sunglasses and zippie on, I was ready.
I drove up the loooooong hill from our complex (which seriously seemed like it took 10 minutes alone to get to the top of that hill) and I came to my much dreaded nemesis:
the stoplight!

I had been worrying about this stoplight the whole night before.
I don't do good with turns and stops, so I was scared for the whole thing.
Luckily, there were no cars in front of me.. but the light was red.
I stopped.. struggled to decide what foot to put down, finally decided and the light turned green. I was off and turned wonderfully.

Except after that there was a green van behind me that was tail-gating me the whole way. I was ticked at them- I was going 30 mph.. and the speed limit is 25.. also, can't you just take it easy and lay off the scared girl on the scooter?!

After I got over that I noticed my hands were giant blocks of ice.. so i quickly turned and drove some more to find a suitable parking spot.. which is another scare all on it's own...

What if I knock the whole row of scooters or motorcycles over?? And a big scary man comes out and yells at me?? Well, I didn't knock any over, but I did park really close to another scooter..hopefully the owner is not a big scary man with a temper..

That's my story for today. Probably boring for you, but I was so proud of myself I had to document it. :)

Good job Emily! If people are watching you, when you take off your helmet be sure and toss your hair! It'll blow them away! Also, I really want that ice cream waffle cone right now.
